Here at SNRA Commodities we specialize in one thing: wholesaling bulk pecans. We harvest, shell, and distribute them to business across the country, who use them for all sorts of things, grinding them up into pecan meal for instance, or making classic pecan pie. This time on the blog, we wanted to take another look at one of those uses – amaretto pecans!
Amaretto pecans are a delicious treat. It’s made up mostly of two parts. I’m sure you can guess what they are.
Amaretto – The Almond Liqueur
Amaretto is an Italian liqueur, originally made from almonds. It’s name come means ‘a little bitter’ and any fans of the drink know that to be an apt descriptor. It is predominantly used as a part of a greater whole, rather than a drink to be imbibed on its own, usually in cocktails or cooking. Being added to desserts like whipped cream, ice cream can bring out the almond flavor. The Italian cake, tiramisu, often uses it. Just one of those treats is the amaretto pecan.
How to Make Amaretto Pecans
There are two popular ways to make and enjoy amaretto pecans, either with or without chocolate. For this first one, we are looking at just plain, chocolate free amaretto pecans.
Stove Top Amaretto Pecans
- ½ cup of amaretto
- 1 ½ cup of pecans
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- A pinch of salt
- Put all ingredients into a pot over medium heat.
- Coat the pecans with the amaretto sugar mixture.
- Mix well, until all liquid has evaporated.
- Move the pecans from the pot onto a silicon mat lined cookie sheet.
- Let cool.
- Once cool, store loosely in a dry space.
With this crafted confection in your cupboard, you can use it to enhance even more desserts and dishes. Heat up some chocolate, drizzle it over for a sweet treat. Grind them up to create a crust for a pie or cheesecake. Crumble them as a topping for some extra crunch.
If you are looking to make full-blown chocolate amaretto pecans you can find a number of different recipes out there.
